Antiviren-Software ist in erster Linie spezialisiert auf die Erkennung und Beseitigung von klassischen Viren. Jedoch haben viele der derzeit verfügbaren Produkte Schwächen bei der Erkennung von anderen schadhaften Programmen, sogenannter Malware wie Trojanern, Dialern, Würmern und Spyware (Adware).
